OneDrive quietly stops syncing more often than it should: a paused icon, a file stuck on “processing changes”, or edits that never reach the cloud. Work through these in order; most teams are sorted by step 4.
One bad file can stall the whole queue. The usual culprits:
" * : < > ? / \ | won’t sync, so rename them.If it’s still stuck, reset OneDrive. This re-reads everything from the cloud and almost always clears a jammed queue. Press Windows + R, paste this, and press Enter:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
OneDrive will disappear for a minute, then come back. If the icon doesn’t return, open OneDrive from the Start menu. Still no luck? Unlink and relink: Settings → Account → Unlink this PC, then sign back in.
That’s the whole checklist a good IT person would run. It’s also exactly what KoalaFix does on its own. Your team member just says “my OneDrive isn’t syncing,” and the agent checks the account, storage, paused state and problem files, then restarts or resets the sync engine if needed. In seconds, no ticket.
Usually one large or locked file, a name with an illegal character, or a path that’s too long. Pause and resume syncing; if it sticks again, find the offending file (often the newest or biggest one) and rename or close it.
Right-click the cloud icon → Resume syncing, or close and reopen OneDrive. If nothing moves, run the reset command above.
No. A reset only re-downloads the file list from the cloud and re-syncs. Your files stay in the cloud and on your PC. You may just see a sync catch-up afterwards.
